The theme I’m exploring for my series of 3 talks at Camp Keola Family Camp this weekend is Grounded: cultivating our spirituality through wilderness, gardening, and cooking. I’m really excited about this opportunity to explore these ideas, which reminded me of this poem I wrote in the Spring of 2015.
Brian and I were living in Atlanta at that time and Hahn Woods was one of the places to which I often escaped. It was situated at the half-way point between our home and Emory University, where I worked at the time. At mere one mile from either location, it was easily accessible. And because it was located along the South Fork of Peachtree Creek, it really was “down” a steep hill.
Take me down to the woods.
Take me down to the place where my
eyes stop looking and my soul starts seeing.
Take me down where my heart does the listening
and the language spoken is birdsong
and rippling water.
May you find a place in nature where you can breathe deeply.
p.s. Registration for Family Camp this weekend is still open!
