Watershed

One way we’re trying to embody Belonging, Inquiring, and Transforming at Willow is through inquiring about how to be better inhabitants of the watershed in which our church is located.

In May of 2025, Willow Avenue will begin a What’s Happening in Our Watershed Project. We’ll feature a plant and a bird from our watershed each month to raise awareness about and care for our more than human kin among us. Members and attenders will be invited to create art of the birds and plants and will hear them referenced in our services. Perhaps we’ll even visit some of them on a hike. We’re also commissioning Mady Neufeld to create line drawings of the birds and plants that will be suitable for coloring. These images will also be available free on our website below in the upcoming weeks. If you’d like to sponsor the image of a bird or a plant for a particular month, talk to Brian.

This new project builds on a three-part series entitled Living Faithfully in our Watershed that Willow Avenue hosted in the fall of 2024. More information, including video recordings of those sessions, is available below.

Living Faithfully in Our Watershed

In the fall of 2024, Willow Avenue hosted a three-part series exploring our watershed. Video recordings are below. In the first session, Dr. Michael Kunz presents a Natural History of Our Watershed. In the second session, Rachel Friesen, M.A., presents stories of Hope and New Possibilities in our Watershed. In the third session, Dr. Laura Schmidt Roberts presents the idea of Watershed Discipleship to frame faithfully living in light of what we learned.
